John was quick to point out to his disciples and others that Jesus was the One of whom he had been speaking. For these reasons, I conclude that John intends for us to understand that these people who believed in Jesus name became true believers. Thats true. Deep down inside where Jesus could see and no one else could his brothers loved the glory of man. . At the trial of Jesus, one of the charges brought against Him was that He said He would destroy the temple (Matthew 26:60-61, Mark 14:57-59). As I think about the early chapters of Johns Gospel, I realize there is a contrast made between sign-faith believers and what I might call word-faith believers. Third, the two examples which follow (Nicodemus in chapter 3, and the woman at the well in chapter 4) both recount conversations our Lord had with individuals who became believers. Nicodemus is speaking with our Lord, and then somewhere after verse 9 we come to the realization that he has gone away, and we are not exactly sure when this was. The irony is that the religious leaders themselves would be the means by which the prophecy was fulfilled. Totally. Those who deny even the possibility of any miraculous intervention in our time seem to go beyond the Scriptures. And so he chose when and where and how and why he would die. The question then arises: Why does our Lord not commit Himself to them? Let us seek to find the answer to this question. He knew what was in the hearts of the men He chose as His disciples. Verse 5 is given as the reason his bothers wanted him to go do his miracles to get some attention in Judea! He doesnt love everybody in the same way. Jesus Knows All Men 23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name. (12-22) Many believe in Christ. When He had made a whip of cords: When Jesus drove those doing business out of the temple courts, He did not do it in a flash of anger. And what will the sign-seekers do then? Observe, that all do not derive equal profit from the works of God; for some are led by them to God, and others are only driven by a blind impulse, so that, while they perceive indeed the power of God, still they do not cease to wander in their own imaginations. In the Temple there was worship without reverence. Let this truth about Jesus sink into your heart. It was also a cold belief, and unaccompanied by the true feelings of the heart. Chapter 2. What is it about these Jerusalem believers which causes our Lord to distance Himself from them, while He entrusts Himself to His disciples, spending a great deal of time with them? In other words, real, saving faith in Jesus is a humble thing. Matthew, Mark, and Luke each describe another cleansing of the temple performed by Jesus, towards the end of His earthly ministry. The high priests seem to have been Sadducees (see Acts 5:17). And he said to him, Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the, Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast, The servants who had drawn the water knew, When Moses sweetened the bitter water it was by a tree which the Lord showed to him. Here is a man who appears to have great potential for furthering our Lords ministry. So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him because they had seen all the things he had done in Jerusalem at the feast (for they themselves had gone to the feast) (John 4:45, emphasis mine). (15-23) They are encourag. John tells us the reason: Jesus is God. ii. [1] 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. Jesus would not entrust Himself to those who would wither and withdraw under this kind of adversity. He does, however, entrust Himself to the Samaritan woman at the well, and to the people of Sychar.
